Before posting a nine-tile grid: order, edges and dimensions

Use 1000×1000 and 1200×1200 examples to understand pixel distribution and check tile numbering against platform layout.

File numbering is not posting order

An explanatory example, not a watermark-removal result or performance benchmark.

Match the source to square tiles

A 3×3 grid needs a square source for square or nearly square tiles. Splitting a 1200×900 image creates 400×300 tiles, not automatic squares. Crop and download a square first if needed, then open that file in Split. Keep important faces and text away from grid boundaries while preparing the composition.

Why dimensions can differ by one pixel

1000 is not divisible by 3, so integer column widths must be distributed between 333 and 334. Adjacent integer boundaries cover the full image rather than dropping the rightmost edge. If a template requires identical dimensions, use a divisible source such as 1200×1200; 3×3 then produces 400×400 tiles. Split does not automatically resize the source.

Numbering is not a universal posting order

Our numbering starts at the top left, moves across each row and then down. A social platform may show the latest post first or preserve selection order within a single post. Extract the ZIP, inspect each tile and use the destination's current preview to decide upload order. One reverse-order recipe cannot apply to every platform.

Inspect the whole grid and each tile

Reassembling the files helps identify missing pieces, but individual tiles may also be viewed alone. Check whether each retains enough meaning, whether text is cut, and whether the platform adds borders or gaps. This tool adds no borders, gaps or watermarks. Keep the source and ZIP so you can adapt if the destination changes its layout.

Checklist

  • Use divisible dimensions when every tile must match exactly
  • Determine upload order from the actual platform preview
  • Check both the reassembled grid and individual readability
